Nissin MF18 II with Nissin Cross Polarization Filter attached

The Nissin Cross Polarization Filter is a single-piece accessory for the Nissin MF18 II Ring Flash, combining a polarizing filter for your lens in the center with polarized glass surrounding it for the ring flash itself.  This dedicated cross-polarization filter set delivers excellent glare suppression, eliminating blown-out highlights to faithfully reveal your subject's true textures and details.

Note: The magnetic mounts on the Cross Polarization filter will only mount to the new Nissin MF18 II Ring Flash — not the original Nissin MF18.  Nissin MF18 II sold separately.

A safety strap is included to prevent the filter from dropping if it becomes detached, and the whole unit attaches to the ring flash via a snap-on magnetic mount.

For Dental Professionals

  • Diagnostic-grade clarity — Cross-polarization eliminates the glare and hot spots that saliva and enamel create under direct flash, so you capture true tooth shade, texture, and surface detail for accurate documentation and case presentation.
  • Built for intraoral precision — The fixed 90° polarization pairing is optimized for close-range clinical photography, cutting through reflections in tight, wet environments where standard flash falls short.
  • Fast, reliable chairside use — The one-piece, pre-aligned design attaches with a snap-on magnetic mount and includes a safety strap, so it's ready to grab between patients with no setup or realignment needed.

For Macro & Product Photography

  • Glare-free, true-to-life detail — Cross-polarized light blocks direct reflections while letting soft, scattered light through, so textures, colors, and fine surface detail render exactly as they are — no blown-out highlights.
  • Ideal for reflective and glossy subjects — Perfect for jewelry, glassware, packaging, and other high-shine products where standard flash creates distracting hot spots and washes out detail.
  • Simple, secure, one-piece design — Lens and ring-flash polarizers come pre-aligned in a single unit with a snap-on magnetic mount and included safety strap, so there's no fiddling with alignment or risk of dropping it mid-shoot.

How does the cross polarization filter work?

Because the flash-side and lens-side polarizers are fixed at a 90° angle to each other, light exiting the ring flash is polarized in one direction, while the lens polarizer only admits light polarized in the opposite direction — letting through only the softer, scattered light and blocking direct reflections. The result is images with fewer harsh highlights and hot spots, making it especially valuable for intraoral dental photography and product photography.

In addition to using a high-quality C-PL filter made of optical glass, it features an internal anti-reflection structure that minimizes flare for crystal-clear rendering.
